Call me Jamie Oiliver!
Chef rubs olive oil on his body to stay youthful...but experts say it’s useless.
Consultant dermatologist Dr Sharon Wong gives her verdict on using olive oil over moisturiser. [There are no benefits] from a medical perspective. There have been medical studies done on natural oils like olive oil and coconut oil. Some do improve hydration but olive oil specifically has been shown to potentially damage the barrier effect of the skin and can make you much more at risk of developing things like childhood eczema. With plant-derived products, botanicals, people can have allergic responses so I don’t think that natural is necessarily always better or safer. If you’re prone to dry skin and eczema, I would stick with the over-the-counter moisturisers designed for people with dry and sensitive skin.
